BEES want YOU! Find out how you can help!

Have we got a treat for you, bee fans! Native bee crusader Dr. Gordon Frankie and his team of researchers at U.C Berkeley’s Urban Bee Lab have released a fabulous new book - "California Bees & Blooms:  A Guide for Gardeners and Naturalists" and will visit the nursery on Sunday, Oct. 19 to give a series of talks at 11 am, 12 pm and 1 pm on native bee biology, ecology and their role in urban, agricultural and wild ecosystems. They'll be selling and signing their beautiful book, too!

Come take a peek into the micro-world of our local bees and what they're doing in - and for - our gardens. Dr. Frankie has been documenting bee diversity and frequency on wild California native plants since 1987 and his research has been eye opening! Learn to recognize some of our native species and find out their favorite pollen and nectar rich plants.

Dr. Frankie says that one of the secrets to successfully gardening for bees is to provide a diverse variety of floral food year-round. The more diverse your plant offerings (exotics AND natives, 10+ varieties!) - the longer bees linger and are more likely to return.

So many of their favorite forage and nectar plants can (and should!) be planted right now - in advance of our Winter rains.

So come learn more tips and fun facts - and bring the kids! Dr. Frankie and his team are sure to answer all of your questions!
