Cercis griffithii
“Afghan Redbud”

A beautiful & rare, Spring blooming tree native to Iran, Afghanistan & Soviet Central Asia. Forming a densely branched, spreading, deciduous shrub or tree, 15’ to 20’ tall, it bears an abundance of deep magenta to rose flower clusters before the leaves emerge in Spring. The densely held, pea shaped blooms also emerge directly from the trunk & old wood. The attractive & large, heart shaped (without the point) leaves keep this graceful tree lovely till Fall. Very pretty smooth bark, too. Quite tolerant of a variety of conditions, “Afghan Redbud” thrives in light, well-drained soil kept fairly dry in Summer.
