Aquilegia vulgaris
'Black Barlow'

Aquilegia vulgaris Black Barlow Aquilegia vulgaris Black Barlow

A beautiful old-fashioned looking Columbine with fully double, spurless, 2”, purple-black blooms. Grows to a proper 30” tall and 18” wide, flowering from late Spring to early Summer with the pendulous blooms held high above a mound of delicate, grey-green foliage. This variety was bred especially for cut flower production and is surprisingly long-lasting in a vase. Cut back to 1” tall after bloom is finished and the foliage will pop back up and look pretty again. Cut back again in Fall. Best in rich, composty soil. Self-sows! Butterflies and hummingbirds! Lovely in the shade garden!
