Sage
‘Berggarten’

(Salvia officinalis)

Salvia officinalis ‘Berggarten’

A tight and compact German cultivar of culinary Sage, highly valued for cooking. You'll find it also makes an outstanding edger, growing into a low, compact mound to only 12" tall and 18" across. Boasting larger, much more attractively rounded leaves of soft and downy silvery-blue, I like it for the bright year-round contrast it adds to my garden. A shy bloomer (mine have never bloomed), short spikes of lavender blue flowers can appear in Summer. Low maintenance, drought tolerant and deer resistant, it’s best in well-drained soil.
