A beautiful, modest-sized (3-5’ high and wide) “Manzanita” with lovely light pink flowers. Evergreen, it begins blooming in mid to late Winter attracting bees and hummers to the nodding, urn-shaped flowers. Showy dark red berries follow, much coveted by small birds. A great landscape shrub for wildlife. The petite, dark green leaves are held on attractively twisting branches. As plants mature, the bark peels to reveal smooth shiny cinnamon-colored wood underneath. Given its toughness and modest size, this California coastal selection makes an excellent low hedge or barrier. It is tolerant of a wide range of soils and drought tolerant once established. Plant in full sun to light shade near the coast and morning sun in hotter climates. Prune to shape.
