Fern
(Woodwardia fimbriata)
“Giant Chain Fern”

Such a gorgeous and impressive fern! I’ve had it growing behind roses against a fence for years, where it gets just a bit of sun, and I’m always blown away by its LUSH, robust appearance and graceful form. Native to the woodlands of the western U.S., it’s said to reach 8’ tall, but mine (garden setting) has topped out at 4’ x 3’. Beautiful, upright, arching, emerald-green, feathery fronds about 3’ long are held in a tight non-invasive clump – yay! A satisfying choice for many situations – including shady side yards and under trees and redwoods. Evergreen with some Summer water. Bouquet material! Deer resistant.
