Artemisia californica “California Sagebrush” This California native Artemisia is a very pretty feathery little shrub with beautiful silver foliage. It is so silver it looks almost white at times. Growing to 3-4’ tall and wide. The flowers are very discrete little yellow-green affairs that don’t add much interest to the plant, but do provide nectar to beneficial insects. This shrub makes a great cover for birds, especially quail. Artemisia californica can take little to no water once established and dislikes being watered too much in the summer. Looks best with a light pruning once it is finished flowering to keep its shape and density. Tea made from parts of this plant has been used to treat fevers. Kelly Kilpatrick Propagator |
