Clianthus puniceus ‘Albus’ “White Lobster Claw” THE plant everyone goes nuts over at our Spring parties! Nearly extinct in its native habitat, this spectacular multi-branching New Zealand shrub has thick stems & rather resembles a 3-5’ tall tree fern with arching tropical branches to 3’ long. Come Spring, exotic pure white 2.5-3” nectar filled “parrot’s beaks” hang all along the branches – at least fifteen per branch! Birds love it! Lovely evergreen pinnate foliage. Can be grown in a barrel-sized container or espaliered against a fence. Easy & fast in rich soil, top-dress with compost several times a year. Cut branches are fab in a vase! Hardy to 13° F. Annie |
