Verbascum olympicum The perfect dramatic plant for those who hate to garden! Native to the ancient Mt. Olympus of Turkey (now known as Uludag) where the plant was discovered. This huge “Mullein” may be the most magnificent of the genus. To 8-10’ tall, it bears an enormous candelabra of golden yellow flowering spikes, easily 3’ wide. The stems begin to branch out near the base above large, gray-felted, green foliage. Long bloom season, too - from July thru September. Totally easy, just “plant and forget” as Verbascums are not fussy about soil or water and are deer and snail proof. Well-drained soil is best. Reseeds! Compost for most brazen display. |
