HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Antirrhinum majus
'Winter Pink'

You know, it’s always wonderful to see what survives though the duress of Winter and it’s been great to see what a trooper this snapdragon has been thru the cold and the wet. It’s really been earning it’s “RUST PROOF” description, and its vigor has been impressive – producing a bounty of pink flower spikes when every other plant just seems to want to sleep in ‘til Spring. Try it out and see! Plant some for your sweetie and you’ll have flowers for Valentine’s Day!

Aquilegia formosa

We grow a LOT of Columbines, and we love them all, but this one I love best, for not only is it a California native but it produces dramatic and strongly branched candelabras of bright red and yellow flowers for longer than almost any other species. It’s just a knockout plant! It’s a hummingbird magnet and grows in both sun or shade, preferring moisture to drought, as it is usually found streamside. We can never keep enough of it around! Highly recommended!

Eriogonum latifolium

This white leaved CA Native Buckwheat was a pot specimen in the nursery for a number of years, and was always good looking, a great trooper and adorable with pink pom-pom flowers on long stems above the softly velvet leaves. It has the air of tea parties and sugar-dusted sweets, and is as much of a good Samaritan as it is a pretty and durable plant, being both a California native, a great host for the garden habitat, and very drought tolerant. I love it! Good drainage will ensure a much longer life for this plant.

California Native

Manulea altissima

We’ve been trying to get this plant for years! This peculiar South African perennial is one of our personal favorites and a must try for fans of fragrance! Growing to just under 1’, long strong stems produce small fists of yellow and white flowers that have an addictive fragrance! Blooms for months! Great for cutting! Good drainage is a must. Needs average water and prefers Full Sun.
