Sparaxis grandiflora ssp. grandiflora
This Sparaxis is so rare, we can't find any evidence of it being in cultivation yet. It is described in Cape Bulbs by Richard L. Doutt as being a striking species, 6” to 7” tall, with purple or brilliant red-magenta flowers of a most remarkable shade. It grows only in one valley of South Africa's cape (the Tulbaugh Valley) and is said to grow well in clay soil, though I am planting mine in a pot so I can enjoy it close up!
