Salvia carduaceacea
“Thistle Sage”

An absolutely spectacular annual Salvia, native to Contra Costa county and south, through the coast ranges and southern deserts into Baja. The amazing, large, intense lavender-blue flowers have frilly edges and are electrified by the bright orange anthers. The flowers burst from dense, thistly, cobwebby clusters that are amazing in themselves. The whole plant is wooly white with thistly leaves. With rain or irrigation, it can reach a height of 4’ tall. Otherwise, it can grow as short as 6” tall. Grows well in a garden and will reseed. Salvia carduacea likes full sun and well-drained soil.
