Salvia apiana
"White Sage"

Beautiful stiff, silver foliage makes this a very attractive and useful shrub for the sunny, dry garden. It grows 4' tall and 4' wide and the foliage is wonderfully aromatic. The Native Americans used the fresh or dried leaves in rituals and it is now commonly used in smudge sticks. A tea made from the leaves is an herbal remedy for cold and congestion and honey bees absolutely adore it. Many 3' flower spikes with white flowers appear in Spring. You should prune these after bloom to encourage compactness. Good drainage is a must.
