Orychophragmus violaceus

Almost completely unknown, this rare annual is native only to China & has yet to sport a common name. A member of the Brassicaceae family, it grows quickly from 1’ to 2’ tall, starting to bloom while quite small. As it grows, it displays more & more flowers reaching a great profusion at maturity. Very long-blooming. The pretty, large, violet-blue flowers held in simple clusters are made of four petals surrounding a yellow eye. The fresh, green, heart shaped leaves are attractive too. As it grows, the stems tend to trail & so this is an excellent plant for the edge of a bed, rock wall, in a container or hanging basket. Fast & EASY! Reseeds.
