Gladiolus tristis
An easily grown & elegant species Gladiolus native to South Africa. The large (2.5” - 3”), nicely shaped, flaring blooms come 3 at a time atop the tender stalks. Deliciously fragrant at night & when used as a cut flower. The scent is variously described as almond, honeysuckle or similar to “Night-scented Stock”. The narrow leaves emerge in the Fall & grow throughout Winter. Bloom is in Spring. Allow to go dry & dormant during Summer. A wonderful addition to the garden & an excellent cut flower. To 1-2' high, spreads politely.
