'Indian Steel'
"Indian Grass"
Once of the
most beautiful & characteristic grasses of the once vast American
tall-grass prairie. “Indian Grass” is an attractive,
clumping, warm season grass. The foliage varies from light green
to almost blue. The leaves, up to ½” wide and 12”
long, branch off the stem at a 45 degree angle. Growing to 3’
tall (taller in rich soil and moisture), it blooms in late Summer,
bearing showy, tan-yellow, soft, feathery, delicate plumes to
12” long and 3’ wide. In Fall, it turns a beautiful
burnt orange, providing great “Winter interest”. Tolerating
a wide range of conditions, it’s DROUGHT TOLERANT once established,
but does best in deep, loamy soil, with water. One of the most
beautiful grasses to use in fresh or dried arrangements. Readily
reseeds but needs two seasons to become established.
