Penstemon
heterophyllus
‘Zuriblau’
Few flowering plants inspire as much awe as a
Penstemon heterophyllus in full bloom. Native to California’s
coast ranges and foothills, its flowers are an almost electric
blue tinged with pink. The 1” to 1.5,” flaring, tubular
blooms are densely borne on 20” spikes. The glossy, bluish-green
foliage is evergreen and the plant spreads to 2’ wide. Penstemon
heterophyllus attracts hummingbirds, regular birds and butterflies.
It needs NO SUMMER WATER once established and poor, dry, well-drained
soil. Excellent in rock gardens, dry garden containers and even
regular, well-drained (no clay) garden beds.
