Cyclopia pubescens

Cyclopia pubescens

Hitherto unknown to cultivation, this rare (& threatened) Cyclopia is perhaps the most ornamental of them all. Blooms in April with large, dense, club-like clusters of 1/2” honey-scented yellow blooms at the top of the openly branching stems! The scent is delicious & responsible for the common name for the genus – “Honeybushes.” We’re not sure whether this is one of the Cyclopias used to make honeybush tea – at least one source says yes – there are many species that are traditionally used. But its ornamental value is unquestionable. Grows from 3-6’ in height & we estimate around 3’ wide, with thin, needle like foliage. Prefers a moist situation, but it doesn’t seem to require constant moisture. Occasional hard pruning (leave some growth – it will not re-sprout from roots) will keep the plant in good form. From South Africa.
