Aeonium saundersii

Aeonium saundersii Aeonium saundersii

Stress can cause dramatic changes in people, & in plants too! This new to cultivation species does something particularly nice when faced with drought – its normally green leaves darken & bronze, & it closes its rosettes into tiny “fists”, exposing the bare stems & changing the plant’s entire appearance! Native to the island of La Gomera, where it is limited to only a few populations, this species is endangered & rare. The silver-dollar sized rosettes are covered in velvet, & are highly branched. Grows under 10” tall, but it’s exact dimensions when mature are unknown. Bloom time is in Spring, & the lemon yellow flowers are produced singly. Like most Aeoniums it can be grown in both sun & part shade, in a variety of soils, & is very tolerant of drought & neglect.
