Salpiglossis sinuata
'Wild Orange'

Salpiglossis sinuata 'Wild Orange' Salpiglossis sinuata 'Wild Orange'

This is one of my favorite plants of the Summer - it has a wild elegance. There’s something about the rich orange color that I can’t resist! Salpiglossis have long provided color to cottage gardens & this wild collected strain from Chile must look very similar to the plants introduced in the 1800’s. When flowering, plants are about 2’ high & maybe 1’ wide - easy to find room for & remarkable when planted in drifts. Their 2” flaring tubular flowers have intricate markings along the throat, making them beautiful up close! Long blooming with a little deadheading, good soil & average water. Prone to self-fertilization - which means the flowers won’t open when conditions are less than ideal (either too much heat, or too little water) so you’ll know if the plants aren’t happy. Fabulous as a cut flower!
