Clarkia purpurea ssp. quadrivulnera
“Four Spotted Purple Clarkia”

Clarkia purpurea ssp. quadrivulnera “Four Spotted Purple Clarkia” Clarkia purpurea ssp. quadrivulnera “Four Spotted Purple Clarkia”

A California native wildflower with stunningly shiny deep purple flowers. Normally found with spots, the color is so deep on this East Bay collected form that the spots are barely visible. The flowers are between 1/4” to 1/2”, but the color more than makes up for the size. Found in open grassy places from Baja to Washington. Thus it adapts well to sunny garden situations or pots. The plant itself gets to 18” tall (depending on the fertility of the soil) & has an upright habit.  Like most other clarkias it is very easy to grow & will self-sow in open areas. Planted early in the ground it will not need to be watered, but planted late or in pots, it will need additional water to thrive.
