Acacia decora
“Showy Wattle”
One of the showiest Acacias, A. decora is completely covered in yellow blossoms in early spring. A medium to large shrub, growing anywhere from 6-15’ tall, it has narrow silvery-grey leaves. “Decora” comes from “decorous” meaning graceful in appearance. And this tree certainly is. Native to East Australia, it is drought tolerant & one of the few Acacias that grows a lignotuber (swollen base from which it re-sprouts) so it makes a good candidate for copicing. Another useful trait is that it naturally grows under Eucalyptus where very few plants grow. May reseed around a bit so don’t plant this if you live near an open space. Kelly Kilpatrick
