Schizachyrum scoparium
“Little Blue Stem”

Schizachyrum scoparium “Little Blue Stem” Schizachyrum scoparium “Little Blue Stem”

Incredibly tolerant of a wide range of conditions, this deciduous, clumping, warm season grass will thrive in moist to extremely dry soil. One of the best known of the prairie grasses, “Little Blue Stem” makes a nice, 3’ tall specimen in the border or dry garden & is widely used for meadows or slopes, especially when erosion control is needed. The foliage is a soft, textured & either green or bluish purple, turning flaming orange in the Fall thru Winter. Fluffy, flowering plumes appear July thru September & light up beautifully in the sun. Any soil except boggy. Excellent massed & good cut flowers. Reseeds.
