Lomatium utriculatum
“Spring Gold”

Lomatium utriculatum “Spring Gold”

I love Lomatiums! The cheery yellow umbel flowers rise above the delicately lacey foliage. Each flower cluster gets to be about 3” across &blooms for a long time - February through May. The nectar is the primary source of food for the San Bruno elfin butterfly. And we can eat it too! The young leaves & stems can be eaten raw or cooked as greens, & the root can be chewed or infused in tea as a treatment for head & stomach aches , or can be roasted as a vegetable. Native to California & Oregon, Lomatium can tolerate clay soil as well as dry conditions. Grows to about 1 foot x 1 foot.
