Sparaxis elegans

This South African bulb has vivid orange petals with a royal purple circle on the interior surrounded by a dotted line of intricate black & yellow markings. It grows to 6” tall, with blooms that span almost 2”, & will increase itself every year if conditions are favorable. The leaves are also rounded at the tips, which is an interesting bonus to the bulb’s appeal. Found growing in clay flats in its native land. Blooms in early spring! Summer dry is definitely the preference, but it probably wouldn’t mind a bit of summer water, so long as the drainage is good.
