‘Double Innocence’
 |
 |
Thanks to recognition & demand for these spectacular “New Millennium Hybrids” bred by the Dowdeswell family of New Zealand, we have more access to more colors! Woo-Hoo! If you’ve yet to discover these “Towers of Power,” you must try one. Really, one is all you need! Reliably perennial (even here in California), they get bigger & better every year, sending up more & more simultaneous spikes with maturity & easily reaching 4’ or 5’ across. The flowers are larger too & densely held in fabulously strong erect stems. And they’re more mildew resistant – we’ve seen none – & we’re in the fog belt. ‘Double Innocence’ bears huge spikes to 6’ tall of semi-double white flowers with touches of green. Heavenly! The trick to greatness here is growing them in richy rich soil with lots of compost. When the flower spikes look spent, cut them back to 1” or so & you’ll get another round – or two – of bloom. And if you’ve got lots of snails, use Sluggo snail bait. Outrageous cut flowers!
