Sonchus fruticosus
“Giant Sow Thistle”

A plant to terrify Home Owner’s Associations everywhere! While this may appear to be a plain old dandelion, it is actually a woody-stemmed mammoth of a dandelion from the Canary Isles, growing up to 6 feet high on long, palm-tree-esque “trunks” & flowers that look like a giant version of everyone’s favorite lawn weed. It may sound frightening, but the plant is actually quite a looker, with big, tropical leaves over a foot long & an overall appearance that harkens back to Prehistoric times. Pollinators adore it, too! A fanciful addition to the back of the border & an amusing specimen & conversation piece!
