Lupinus grayi
“Sierra Lupine”

The seeds from this Sierra Nevada wildflower were collected for us by Villager Nursery in Truckee. I have seen it growing on open mountain slopes (between 1600 & 8000 feet), it is a very attractive, spreading 7-14” sub-shrub with deep purple to light blue flowers. It is sometimes fragrant. Surely a lovely Lupine for the mountain areas, perhaps even for a lowland garden. Jepson warns it may be difficult to grow (though insufficiently tested). At low elevation, I suggest growing it in a pot with a fast draining mix & keeping it from getting very wet in the Winter. Such supposedly difficult Lupines have often grown well for us in a peat & perlite potting soil, instead of the more traditional rocky mix. Let us know how it does for you.
