| Crotalaria agatiflora
“Canary Bird Bush”
The first time I saw this shrub/small tree I thought that it was just great & I had to get one. Now that I’ve grown it for a while I still love it & am happy to have it in my garden. It is long blooming with foot-long spikes of chartreuse yellow flowers. The claw shaped flowers resemble canary birds sitting on a branch, hence the common name. Blooms Spring through Fall, except in areas with hotter summers, where it takes a break during the heat, but it picks back up again in Fall. Has nice, blue-green foliage that stays evergreen in warm areas, but goes semi-dormant in my zone 9 garden. From East Africa, grows to be about 8-10’ tall & wide. Fast grower. Bloomed & grew all summer in my dry garden! All parts are poisonous, so don’t eat!
