| Eryngium amethystinum
Dramatic, hardy, drought & salt tolerant – this exceptionally showy “Sea Holly” easily bears 100 flower heads at a time! The lovely metallic blue-purple flowers are borne on many branching powdery blue stems in late Summer thru Fall, & make wonderful cutting material fresh or dried. To 2’ tall & 2’ across Eryngium amethystinum is a most reliable & tough as nails perennial. Thrives in low fertility (will-drained) soil as well as sandy coastal soil, regular garden soil & containers. Fab in a dry garden! Created as a cross between E. bourgatii & E. alpinum, it’s sterile too, so no need to worry about self-sowing. Attracts bees!
