| Aeschynanthus parasiticus

photo: Kathy Hardy
A lovely gesneriad that has been shared with us by Jon Dixon. This plant has lovely large upright clusters of red-orange tubular flowers. It blooms in late Summer & early Fall. The foliage is trailing, the leaves are large, lanceolate & glossy dark green. It would make an excellent plant for a hanging basket. Aeschynanthus parasiticus is not a parasite but an epiphyte. It is found growing in trees in India. Being an epiphyte, it needs well draining soil as well as bright shade. Can be grown as an indoor plant.
