Euphorbia amygdaloides
‘Purpurea’
“Purple Wood Spurge”
An absolutely stunning Euphorbia & good garden entertainment to boot!
This highly desirable, purple variation of “Wood Spurge” goes
thru beautiful & fascinating coloration changes with the seasons,
its foliage starting out green in the Spring, with new growth looking
like wine-colored blossoms. In late March throughout April, it bursts
into a profusion of lime green flower heads almost blotting out the foliage.
In Fall & Winter, the upper leaves & stems mature to a “to-die-for”
deep purple-ruby. Yum! The following Spring, the leaves become green again.
30” tall & wide. “Wood Spurge” will give the best
show in full sun (near the coast), with average to low water & well-drained
soil. Will lose some glory after a few years, but will self-sow for fresh
new beauties. Like all Euphorbias, the sap of this plant can be TOXIC to varying degrees. Be sure to protect your eyes, skin & NEVER ingest!
