Scabiosa
cretica
A lovely, useful, TOTALLY DROUGHT TOLERANT Scabiosa or “Pincushion
Flower” from the island of Crete. Its most fascinating features
are the PERFECTLY spherical seed heads that remain for quite a long while
after the blooms are finished. The quite large (1.5” or more), flattish,
lavender blooms are pretty & appear May thru July above very attractive,
silvery foliage. To 18” tall & about 15” across, Scabiosa
cretica thrives in hot, dry, poor, well-drained soil as well as average
garden soil here by the coast. Attracts butterflies & bees.
