Angelica acutiloba
“Dong Quai”
This is the Japanese species of “Dong Quai,” the highly regarded
herb used for female hormonal balance, blood purification, migraines &
much more (The Chinese species is A. polymorpha var. sinensis). Well,
look, it makes a lovely plant for the garden, too. The smallest of the
Angelicas, it grows to only 2’ tall with delicate & attractive,
deep green, shiny foliage. In Summer, it bears large, pretty, white umbels.
“Dong Quai” likes moist, rich soil & a top dressing of
compost once or twice a year will keep it in perfect shape. Preventing
it from setting seed will keep it reliably perennial.
