Penstemon procerus
“Small Flowered Penstemon”
Penstemon procerus “Small Flowered Penstemon”

I’m charmed by this easy-to-grow Penstemon. It’s native to dry meadows of much of Western North America, including California & grows easily in watered garden beds as well as drier situations. Beginning its bloom in June, it bears very sweet, rich true-blue or purple-blue flowers held in dense whorls on 12” to 18” stems. The slightly nodding, flaring blooms are small but since they’re held close together, you get a good vision of color. Each stem holds 4-6 whorls. The fresh green, pointed leaves are nice, too. Extra excellent planted in groups. Good cut flower & attractive to butterflies. To’ 1’ x 1’.
