| Lepechinia hastata
Heat & drought tolerant, evergreen & amazingly hardy (to 0° F), this unusual & easy to grow Salvia relative puts on an absolutely stunning display from August thru October, just when your garden may be sliding into the blahs. Big 1’ upright & open spikes of voluptuous deep magenta-rose create a cloud of bloom 3’ across above extra handsome, mint scented, silvery, ground-covering foliage. A tasty hummingbird favorite! Happy in poor soil as long as there’s drainage. Cut back in Winter. Native to Hawaii, its tropical vibe will light up any garden but otherwise, this is one tough plant. To 4’ high. It prefers full sun but can take a bit of shade.
