Helleborus
orientalis hybrids
‘Wayne Roderick’
Shortly before Wayne Roderick passed from our world, he brought us seeds
from his favorite Hellebores growing in his garden. He told us he selected
from the darkest red-purple ones he had, claiming all would be beautiful.
Helleborus orientalis hybrids should be around 18” tall with shiny,
toothed, palmate leaves. Winter blooming, of course, with single flowers
in shades of red. Wayne Roderick was an insatiable plant collector, propagator
& locally, as well as internationally known, horticulturalist. Well
known for popularizing California native bulbs, he was head of the California
native section at the U.C. Botanical Garden for 24 years.
