Rosa ‘Cornelia’

Hybrid musk Roses are some of the easiest Roses to grow on the Coast of California. They tolerate fog and half a day of shade without any diseases & the cooler temperatures make the flowers last longer & intensify the colors. Conversely, they are not well suited to sunny & hot climates. ‘Cornelia’ has been a Spring blooming focal point in my garden for years. Left on its own it will be a 4’ x 7’ mounding shrub, but due to lack of space, I have trained it as a climber up against a fence. With support it will grow to 12’ tall & its long, pliable, thornless canes make it a very easy Rose to handle & restrain as needed. The flowers are individually small, but they are carried in large clusters & the Rose repeats well during the season. With irrigation, the Fall bloom is supposed to be even better than what I see in Spring, which is hard to believe considering the impact of the Spring bloom. The color of the flowers varies with the temperature from pink to salmon apricot, often with the colors blended & the scent is lovely & very distinctive. The buds are my favorites, perfectly shaped & blazing carmine red. In short: a very healthy & beautiful Rose.
