Berkheya
purpurea
“Zulu Warrior”
From the Kwazulu-Natal region of South Africa comes this unusual,
bold & showy plant. To 2’ tall, it makes a good sized rosette
of wicked-cool, spikey, lance-shaped leaves to 15” long &
wooly underneath from June – September. Quite outrageous, large,
lavender-mauve, dahlia-like flowers, 3” across with dark purple
centers are borne on a continuous succession of stems. Stump your
garden buddies with this one! Berkheya purpurea loves hot & dry
& is easy to grow as long as there’s good drainage.
