Cassia
marilandica
“Maryland Senna”
Very attractive, bright yellow flowers are held in erect, lupine-like
clusters well above the foliage on this robust east coast native Cassia.
It’s become very popular there as a garden plant for its ease
of growth, interesting flowers, long bloom season & its b old,
good looking, feather foliage which turns golden-yellow in the Fall.
Growing to a 4’ x 4’ shrub, it flowers July thru September
& the pretty leaflets provide interest throughout the growing
season. The 4’ long, flat, black pods in Fall attract birdies.
“Maryland Senna” looks best in rich garden soil with some
water but is VERY DROUGHT TOLERANT once established. Thrives in clay!
