Pineapple Guava Acca sellowiana (formerly Feijoa sellowiana) One of the EASIEST and MOST REWARDING fruit trees to grow! This South American EVERGREEN shrub/tree has naturalized in many parts of the U.S. needing little to no care or additional water to bloom and fruit magnificently! Naturally forms a dense, multi-branched shrub up to 15’ tall and wide, but can easily be pruned to any shape or size. In Spring, pink and white flowers emerge with sweet, edible, marshmallowy petals. 2-4”, green, leathery, ovoid fruits follow, ripening in Autumn/Winter. Fruits are ready when they easily fall off the tree. The skin is edible, but not yummy, so scoop or suck out the sweet pineappley flesh. Makes a wonderful jam that needs no additional sugar! Fruits best with cross-pollination – so plant two for a larger yield. |
