Allium schubertii

Allium schubertii Allium schubertii

Absolutely MASSIVE blooms that can reach over 12” across! This easy to grow, extremely ornamental heirloom bulb produces a single, sturdy flower stalk 1-2’ tall in late Spring/early Summer topped by an almost perfectly spherical cluster of pinky-purple flowers of alternating lengths – think GIANT SPARKLER, but without the fire hazard. Once done, the flower spike dries in place & can be left in situ or used in dry flower arrangements or crafts – spray glitter, anyone? Foliage is Summer dormant & tends to start dying back just as the flower opens, so planting it with a groundcover to hide the leaves is a good idea. Needs very little water while dormant. Returns reliably in Spring with lush, bright green, strappy foliage. Provide excellent drainage. Self-sows!
