Crocosmia aurea

Here is a great Crocosmia to grow for cut flowers or just to enjoy in the garden. Not as invasive as the common Montbretia (Crocosmia x crocosmiflora), this one will form a clump only a couple of feet wide. And the flowers are prettier, too! The flowers are orange-red & produced on branched inflorescences that can get to be 3’ tall. Found growing along the edges of forests in South Africa, it prefers some shade & to be kept moist. It succeeds in most soils except heavy clays & bogs. Yellow dye is obtained from flowers. Hardy to -10 degrees F.
