‘Silver Lace’
“Corsican Hellebore”
Leathery, lobed leaves cast in silver light up the shade
on this tough evergreen perennial. ‘Silver Lace’
is an upstanding & popular Hellebore, making a large clump
of striking palmed leaves that provide many textural &
contrast possibilities to play with. One of the best perennials
for dry shade, they can survive under Oak trees once established
with no summer water, & additionally, deer don’t
eat them! 2-3’ tall & eventually spanning 4’
wide, cup shaped chartreuse flowers appear in winter &
their calyxes persist for months. Long lived, & hard to
kill, they like rich soil & will grow faster if given
average water. Bait for snails & slugs, which are practically
the only thing that can make these enduring plants look worse
for wear.
