| Amsonia hubrichtii
“Arkansas Blue Star”
Amsonia hubrichtii is native to the state of Arkansas. It
is found growing in dry, rocky outcrops, well-drained creek
banks & bottomlands. So it is able to take extra water
but (once established) it can also take drought. It is a fine
textured shrub consisting of slim, needle-like foliage. It
is slow at first but grows quickly in its second year. It
gets to be about 3’x 3’. It has clusters of steel
blue, star-shaped flowers in Spring. The flowers make it well
worth growing on their own but what most people rave about
is the Fall color. It is a shining, golden yellow. To really
show it off, plant it in front of a dark green shrub so the
bright color really shows off. Fall color is most pronounced in full sun.
