Fuchsia glazioviana

Fuchsia glazioviana

An elegant mite-resistant Fuchsia that blooms most of the year. The flowers are the traditional pink & purple combination of many of the more blowsy hybrids we can no longer grow around here because of mite problems. But these slender flowers remind me of the pink & purple clad “ballerinas” I used to imagine the hybrid variety flowers to be. Blooms prolifically Spring thru Fall. The stems are low growing although shoots will grow up thru neighboring shrubs, using them for support. Becomes more shrub-like in full sun. Can get to be 6’ tall & wide. The foliage is composed of small, glossy leaves that develop bronzy highlights. Native to the cloud forests of Brazil, it does best with light shade or areas with morning sun. Appreciates a layer of compost every so often.
