Eriogonum grande rubescens "Red Buckwheat"
Got Clay? This choice & hard to find native of the Channel Islands thrives on neglect & prefers dry, clay soil. The shortest, most delicate looking of the Buckwheats, its also evergreen, forming a nice, low, dense, 1 x 3 mound of spoon shaped leaves, green above & wooly below. From June - October, it bears deep pink clusters of flowers that are very attractive to butterflies. Island Buckwheat thrives in coastal conditions, rock walls, dry gardens & does not like much Summer water once established. Hardy to 15 degrees F.
