Delphinium elatum "True Wild Form"Delphinium elatum "True Wild Form"

Would you like to know what the parent of modern Delphinium hybrids looks like? Growing 3’-6’ tall, with numerous stout erect stems, (it certainly needs no staking) and rich violet blue flowers on slender many flowered racemes. A lovely wildflower and sadly neglected today. It has a sturdy woody rootstock and thrives in ordinary, well- drained soil in sun or part shade. It was introduced into cultivation back in 1597, probably from Siberia.
