One of the few plants that grow under oak or redwood trees! This CA native “3-leaf clover” hails from moist woodland areas up and down the west coast. Each leaf is divided into three 1” heart-shaped leaflets which are an attractive dark green above, with a purple blush on the underside. Plants gradually colonize shady areas via rhizomes and, once established, produce tiny star-shaped flowers in shades of soft pink to white from Spring thru Fall. Forms a beautiful dense carpet of foliage perfect for that spot where not much will grow! Combines well with woodland plants such as Columbines, Nicotianas, Hellebores, Plectranthus, and Forget-Me-Nots. Plant in dappled to full shade and water regularly to establish. This versatile plant can tough out periods of dryness once rooted. Will adapt to nearly every soil, though it performs best in humus-rich soil. Evergreen in milder zones.
