Its
December 3rd and lordy, its 70 something degrees outside!
The sky is blue , the cedar waxwings are making their
annual visit to my Pyracanthus and seedlings are popping
up everywhere.
What incredible Fall planting weather we’ve had,
folks are out in their gardens everywhere I look.
The news guys tell us this is El Nino again (or is it
El nina ?) and the rain will arrive in buckets come
February and March. Uugh! I prefer my rain early with
those few glorious warm and sunny days, so enticing,
in February- ideal for early Spring hikes in Wildcat
Canyon and Pt. Pinole and of course for gardening! Oh
well,I guess this will be one of those years where the
mud plays tug-o-war with my boots , but the bird watching
along the Bay will be fantastic.
The dry weather has allowed us to build another demonstration
bed at the nursery and hopefully one more before Spring.
Late Winter and Spring should be amazing this year where
you’ll be able to see lots of varieties in full
bloom in our beds- no longer held back in size by containers.
So far I’ve planted Winter bloomers, lots of
hardy annuals including our native wildflowers and
new favorite perennials. I’m having fun trying
out new plant combinations as well as enjoying the
chance to demonstrate how pretty our California native
wildflowers can be in the garden. Come visit us in
the Spring or even sooner, when our nursery is packed
to the brim and immerse yourself in some fabulous
new planting ideas!
